Life Abroad

Living abroad is a new to me. Out of my comfort zone and out in the world. It’s challenging but challenges is what makes life worth living. Dubai is a really nice place. Although the laws are heavily Islamic but they have made changes to suite people from other religions and culture. I like to do street photography in Dubai but since I’m busy, I couldn’t do it as often as I could. Here’s some photos I took, when I went around.

My first time seeing fog this thick. A sign that summer is on the way. Circa Jan. 2015

Hello, it’s me again!

Hellooooooooooo everyone! Wow, it’s been a long time since I posted something here. I’ve been very busy for the last, what, 8 months? Yup, I have been very very busy and I’m not in the Philippines anymore. I currently living in Dubai. I’m trying my luck in another country and see where this takes me. I really like it here, it’s peaceful and virtually 0 crime rate.

Burj Kalifa, tallest building…in the world.(as of the time of this writing)

So, I’m working here now and that’s what making me busy nowadays. So til’ here for now and will try to post as often as I can. A lot has happened in the 8months I’ve been absent and one of them has never ever crossed by mind when I came here…I went to Iran. So I’ll just post on that later and have a good day everyone! It’s good to be back!

Yes. I’m officially unemployed. I love this feeling of waking up and not having to worry about what I did(or didn’t do) at work. When I wake up, I hear birds singing, see the sun shining and smell the breakfast cooking. God I love to be home. Also, I wont be able to watch my calorie intake because food at home is not measured, it’s like eat all you can, and I’m eating all I can. I can’t say that I don’t miss work, I worked for almost 6 years in one company, but I’m loving this life right now. No worries, well one, my weight. Anyhoo, I’m in Bohol now and enjoying my mini vacation as we speak!

Regards from Bohol y’all!

The Land of Promise II: Day 3(last day).

So this post is waaaaaaaaaaay long over due. I was really busy and for some reason, I forgot where I placed the photos for the 4th day. So we went back to rode a bus to Iligan from Cagayan de Oro at around 6:00 am and arrived around 7:30.

After arriving, we went straight into St. Michael’s Cathedral. I like to photograph churches so I don’t want to miss this chance.
IMGP0629_tonemapped IMGP0633I also did a little street photography around the church.

After that, we went straight to Timoga. Timoga is place where there are several pool resorts. I wanted to swim in these pools since they are natural spring water. So we bought some lechon outside the resort(one of the best lechon I ever had) and went inside.

The entrance fee for these resorts is just P100 by the time of this writing. The tables/cottages are around P200. A bit pricey but it’s well worth it. We had a lot of fun and the water is soooo cold, it’s like it was the water was refrigerated or something and I was shaking because of it.

After our lunch, we swam a little and head home. My ship was leaving at 4pm so we had to hurry. Too bad since I really wanted to stay more, but there’s still next time. I really had a super great time, albeit short. I really want to travel more with The Girl but that will have to wait. 🙂

Yep. Today, The Girl and I celebrates our first Anniversary. I really don’t have much to say but I’m happy to be with her and I love her so much. This would be a first of many more. I created a short video for her and I hope that she likes this.

CosCafe Cebu – Defunct

Editor’s Note: This shop is no longer operational. Sorry my beautiful Otakus.

I have always been fascinated with everything Japanese ever since I was young. My father works abroad and he works for a Japanese firm, so he brought a lot of Japanese stuff when he comes home. I always wanted to visit Japan, but since I can’t do that at the moment, I’ll have to settle for something closer to it; Anime, Manga, shows about Japan(this show is awesome, you can really learn a lot more about Japan and it’s culture), Japanese Gentleman’s Special Interest Literature ;), and of course, Japanese food. I’ve been to several Japanese restaurants but I’ve only reviewed one. This would be the second, well, sort of. It’s not really a restaurant but more like a cafe. Cosplay cafe at that! When I heard that one had opened near my work place, I just have to try it. Since my food trip buddy(The Girl) is no longer living in the city, I have to search for another comrade who’s willing to go with me. Luckily, my workmate(Eric “not the actor” Bana) wanted to try it as well.

If you are not familiar with these Japanese Cosplay Cafe/Maid Cafe, then you’ll be surprised. This is very common in Japan, specially the Akihabara district in Tokyo. Google it, you’ll see. It’s the first time that I’ve been to one of these cafes, but I’ve done my fair share of research. When you visit the place, the first thing you’ll notice will be this:
Yes, costumes. Then this:

Yep, their servers wears french maid costumes. When you enter, they will greet you with a Japanese phrase that I can only assume as “Welcome home Master” or something of the likes. Sorry, I don’t really speak Japanese.

It may surprise you, but this is the common outfit for the Cosplay/Maid Cafes in Japan. Another thing that will surprise you is their menu:

Well, that’s not the surprising part, but food and drinks just cover 30% of their Menu. This is the rest:

Again, it may be highly unusual here but this is the norm for Cosplay/Maid Cafes in Japan. Mind you, it’s not limited to french maid costumes, it can be any Anime character costumes and such. The idea behind is that many Cosplay/Anime fans are able to interact with their favorite character. Some cafes, such as this one, have their own “maids” you can interact with. You can learn more about them through their biodata of sort.

There are also a lot of Japanese stuff in this cafe, from Anime action figure to Manga.

After checking out the place we decided to order drinks. We just had our lunch so we weren’t hungry. I ordered a Cold Choco.

It was good, I mean, you can never go wrong with cold chocolate drink. My friend Eric Bana ordered cappuccino.

He said that it’s a good cappuccino. They also have a member’s card that will give you some perks. You get a stamp for every P100 you spend. Get 10 stamps and you’ll get P50 off to your next purchase. Get 20, you’ll get P100 off. Get 30 and you’ll be able to wear anime costumes:

This is the interior of the place:

Yep, they have windows inside. It feels like a small house of anime, and I like it! Also, there’s anime songs playing all the time, so you can really feel the Anime/Cosplay atmosphere here.

For my first experience in a cosplay/maid cafe, I had a jolly good time. It was really nice, I like anime and everything, so this was a really good experience. Also, the service time was fast, and the prices are reasonable, but you can never really put a price on experience. 🙂

I feel like a king in that chair. It’s like it was built for me. lol

When you leave the place, they “maids” will shout another Japanese phrase that I can only assume as “Thank you, Master! Come Again!” But then again, I’m no Japanese language expert.

I’m pretty sure that people who likes cosplay/anime/manga or anything Japanese, will love this place. CosCafe is located at the 2nd floor JY Square Mall, Brgy. Lahug, Cebu City. You can visit their facebook page for more info.

“Thank you, Master! Come Again!”

Update(Aug 24, 2014):

My sister is a certified Otaku, so when she knew that this place exist, she wanted to visit this as soon as possible.

They updated the prices of their meals, which is a good thing. 🙂

We ordered Honey toast and Onigiri(Lechon flavor).

The honey toast was really good! I really like it! The presentation was really nice! It makes you want to eat it more.

This was the first time I ate Onigiri(rice balls) and it was quite good. It’s a traditional Japanese dish. Inside this is lechon, but they have other flavors(Tuna mayo, miso and bacon).

My sister ordered Java Chips for her drinks and I ordered Blended Mocha.

My sister was really happy, Like I said, she’s an Otaku, and this was like heaven to her.

Give me some food, onegaishimasu!

The Land of Promise II: Day 3

Day 3 was probably of the longest land travel I ever had, but it felt like just a couple of minutes. I guess it’s true that time flies by when you enjoying. Also, I was sitting beside a hot girl, so there’s that. 😀

We left Iligan around 1 pm since we had to buy something in the city and return it to their house and it was straight to Cagayan after that. We arrived at Cagayan de Oro Bulua terminal and we rode a taxi to where my cousin was waiting. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to take a photo of the city since we were in a hurry. After we met my cousin, we went straight to Bukidnon. He will take us to a place called Dahilayan. It’s actually pretty famous but it was my first time hearing about it. 😀

On route to Dahilayan is the plantation of the one of the biggest names in the food industry:

Yup, the big Pineapple(as I’d like to call it). Also there’s a big pineapple here. No joke, there really is a big ass pineapple in this place.
IMGP0569It was my first time seeing a lot of pineapples. And “a lot” is an understatement.
DSCF2249 IMGP0576 IMGP0578 IMGP0587We’ve been driving for miles and miles and all I can see are pineapples… and the occasional fog.

It was quite a long drive, about an hour and a half or so, but when you get there, it’s a beautiful place! Too bad we arrived at night, we cant see their park but we really had a good time even if it was already dark.

Those animals are realistic. That wolf gave me the chills.

After checking the place, we dine in.

The food was delicious and it was really reasonably priced! My cousin and I had a couple of beers, then we decided to head home. Before that though, we saw a lot of native american statues and before we know it, we’re taking photos with them. Since we cant rent one, we just took a photo of the dune buggies. 😀

We left Dahilayan around 8pm and we arrived at the city around 10. We then went to sleep shortly after we arrived since we need to leave early in the morning. I really had a wonderful time during my short visit to Cagayan and Bukidnon. Also, it was good seeing my cousin. He was one of my closest cousin and it was all expenses paid trip. Thank you manoy Kk for the tour!

Movie 92: Apocalypse Now

Synopsis in one sentence:

During the U.S.-Viet Nam War Captain is sent on a dangerous mission into Cambodia to assassinate a renegade colonel who has set himself up as a god among a local tribe.

What I think?

I think it was awesome. It showed me a different side of the Vietnam War. It was also a philosophical movie. You can learn a lot of things from it. Also, this was filmed in the Philippines and that makes it more awesome!

Next Attraction:
Blade Runner
